Soch - A Thought. What is it actually? How does it help us? What do we do about it? Many, many questions... Yet nobody will disagree that it is the fundamental step to any action. Lord Buddha said, “The Ancestor of every Action, is Thought.” This “thought” first caught my attention, while reading William Wordsworth’s Daffodils for a competition. He glorifies the concept of “Sit and Stare” in the lines:

For oft, when on my couch I lie, in vacant or in pensive mood,

 They flash upon that inward eye, which is the bliss of solitude;

Yet, the power of this statement was not understood then and nor is it till date. In today’s world, we thoughtlessly live a mechanised life, following our mundane routines. We consider any activity that is not directly productive as “useless” or a “Waste of Time”. Yet, a thought has the power to change the world. They say, What we think, We become”. Since a thought is what sparks an action, it holds the power to start revolutions. Numerous examples from world history bear testimony to this fact.

Thought also provides a lot of peace and calm to the mind.  If, like me, anyone has ‘sat and stared’ at their surroundings, he/she will know that it has been one of the best experiences of my life. The power to take better decisions is directly proportional to the power of a better thought process. It is thus evident, that great mental maturity is the cause and effect of Thought.

Also, a thought is different from a random idea. I thought that today I will start a blog. I wasn’t just an Idea. It was a well-considered Thought. So the basic difference between an Idea and a Thought is that an idea is a half-baked thought. It is the root of a thought. “I have thought about it”, “I will think about it”...We never take decisions based on ideas...but on thoughts.

This blog is nothing but my Thoughts over issues of everyday life. And hence, I welcome all your contributions and contradictions, which would really help me widen my horizons. These Thoughts will be purely personal and might just be far, far away from the Gospel truth. So stand steady, because I earnestly hope to flow in this river of Thoughts with you.

:D

  1. Brilliant stuff, man......i particularly agree with you on the "If, like me, anyone has ‘sat and stared’ at their surroundings, he/she will know that it has been one of the best experiences of my life." I know this is a typically cliched line, but probably the most beautiful things in life reside with us, around us. And the comparison between an idea, and a thought, i never 'thought' about it that way. isn't it amazing; you've been thinking about, "thinking!!" Keep writing man..... :)

  6. WOW.....................
that was utterly beautiful....and frankly....not very far from the "gospel truth"....and yes....everyone who has experienced the frenzy of the tide of thought would agree with that too....and if i may add......not only does that thought change one's life but has often been responsible for changing people ....experiences are thrust everyone's way...but are meaningful to only those who "think" about their significance.....and so thought is beautifully weaved with the flow of one's growth through his/her life......ad now i shall just leave it to be exclusively your blog instead of getting carried away presenting my "thoughts"......
but yeah....looking forward to your posts....keep writing....goes without saying....

  7. Wow. Great words really. I particularly agree with the fact that "experiences are thrust everyone's way...but are meaningful to only those who "think" about their significance" Great thought, and extremely well articulated!

And dont worry about that! Like I said, this is a place for me to widen my horizons, and you are helping me in it!

    Thank You! :D

  9. this literary piece is worth appreciation
so kudos to you vibhor :)
    but appreciation of what exactly?
    well...
1)how beautifully you could interpret a THOUGHT which i guess should be universally acceptable to all
making people relise that "thinking is not such a waste of time" and how can one forget the comparison between thought and idea , which i fr a long time used to think are same ;)

but you should also not forget the fact that thoughts not always bring you peace and mind...there are disturbing thoughts which have a great impact in minds of people(i am talking of negative impact here perhaps a state of mental instability)

well in the end truly THOUGH PROVOKING :)

  10. @Vasuki: Great! Looking Forward.

@Ishita: Thank You! Yes many people have this misconception of the difference between a thought and idea. Thats what I wanted to bring out. Now what I mean was...that THINKING brings a lot of peace and calm, because no matter how "disturbing the problem is, it can be sorted out if thought about. Whereas, getting worked up about it is what creates trouble.

  14. "We never take decisions based on ideas...but on thoughts." that says a lot. .and I totally agree. . .I think all of us should broaden our perspective a little more and look a little more deeper into us. Many of our thoughts are NOT futile instead have a lot of potential. . .If we all unite these thoughts and express them well, then so many problems can be eradicated and the world can me a much better place to live. But sadly, the conventional selfishness and self centred nature of the humans don't often arise thoughts for welfare.

well, anyway, I'd say you'v written a brilliant blog on just a random thought that flew past ur mind which is very good 'Junior' :P

  15. True....as this world turns more and more competitive and selfish, "common welfare" and "good for others" will be words even Oxford Dictionary will have to remove from there.

    Very well said.

    Thank You..Didi! :P
